Characterization of thermal transport across single-point contact between micro- wires

چکیده
A contact transient electrothermal technique (CTET) is developed to characterize the thermal transport between one-dimensional conductive and nonconductive microscale wires that are in point contact. This technique is a significant advance from the transient electrothermal method that is used to characterize the thermophysical properties of individual one-dimensional micro-wires. A steadystate analytical solution and a transient numerical solution are used to independently determine the value for the thermal contact resistance between the wires at the contact point. The CTET technique is applied to measurement of the thermal contact resistance between crossed Pt wires (25.4 μm diameter) and the thermal contact resistance between a glass fiber (8.9 μm diameter) in contact with a Pt wire (25.4 μm diameter). For Pt wire contact, the thermal contact resistance increases from 8.94 × 104 to 7.05 × 105 K/W when the heating current changes from 20 to 50 mA. For the Pt/glass fiber contact, the thermal contact resistance is much larger (2.83×106 K/W), mainly due to the smaller area at the contact point.

Fate of the Josephson effect in thin-film superconductors
The dc Josephson effect refers to the dissipationless electrical current – the supercurrent – that can be sustained across a weak link connecting two bulk superconductors.1 This effect is a probe of the fundamental nature of the superconducting state, which depends crucially on the spatial dimensionality of the superconducting electrodes. For bulk (i.e. threedimensional) superconductors, the su...

Emergence of two-dimensional (2D) materials with atomic-layer structures, such as graphene and MoS 2 , which have excellent physical properties, provides the opportunity of substituting silicon-based micro/nanoelectronics. An important issue before large-scale applications is the heat dissipation performance of these materials, especially when they are supported on a substrate, as in most scena...

In this work, a novel steady-state electro-Ramanthermal (SERT) technique is developed to characterize the thermal transport in one-dimensional micro/nanoscale materials. The SERT technique involves steady-state joule heating of a suspended sample and measuring its middle point temperature based on the temperature dependence of the Raman shift peak intensity. In this work, the thermal diffusivity of single polyacrylonitrile (PAN) wires with diameters from 4.62 μm down to 324 nm is measured by using our recently developed transient electro-thermal technique. The wires span from 23 μm to 126.2 μm in our measurement. Since PAN wires are dielectric, a thin Au film is coated on the surface of the wires to make them conductive. In the experiment, a step c...

In this work, a technique based on optical heating and electrical thermal sensing (OHETS) is developed to characterize the thermophysical properties of one-dimensional micro/nanoscale conductive and non-conductive wires. In this method, the to-be-measured thin wire is suspended over two electrodes and is irradiated with a periodically modulated laser beam. The laser beam induces a periodical te...
